The National Parliament has yesterday voted on a motion of no confidence on the Prime Minister. The motion was moved by Hon. Derek Sikua, Member of Parliament for North East Guadalcanal.

Hon. Sikua is a former Minister of the Grand Coalition for Change Government who, along with a number of senior Ministers, moved to the Opposition early last month.

In the vote, 25 members voted “aye”, 22 voted “no” while one member was absent.

Yesterday’s vote was a history in the making as it was the first time for a Prime Minister to be voted out of office through a motion of no confidence.

A date for the election of a new Prime Minister is yet to be set by the Governor – General.
